Head Fashion

Royanne loves to wear hats and head bands. She loves them because, from the very beginning, I put them on her. Ok, I admit it: I wanted her to love them............... and it worked!

When we go shopping, we always find hats and try them on, at the very least. Occasionally we purchase some. In her collection, she probably has, hats and bands combined, 30 or 35. As soon as she has enough hair, we will use the baby clips cousin Abby gave us.

Below are some of my favorite hat and headband pictures.

Eating and the Clean Up

NEW LESSON FOR MOM:

Don't leave anything unattended, even for a second!

We were about to read on the couch (I was going to have a small snack), I got up to get a different book and she grabbed and emptied the bag!

Good food.........Happy baby!

On her 6 month wellness visit, the pediatrician told us to introduce solids when Royanne began to be interested in what we were eating, when she began to reach for something on our plate or watch us chew our food. As if on cue, she began this behavior immediately.

Rice cereal was our first choice, quickly followed by (baby food style) peas, applesauce, green beans, squash and sweet potatoes. We tried fresh avocados: a direct hit! Mashed potatoes bored her. Yogurt got a sour face right away! Peaches were next & accepted.........& turns out are the only thing added to yogurt that will not get us an "ICK! face". She likes baby food bananas but not fresh ones. We have enjoyed watching her facial expressions at new taste experiences.

Finger foods we have tried have been rice, green beans (no strings!), and small tidbits of rice pasta.
Her face still lights up when she sees a bottle and she continues to nurse a few times a day. She has had no desire to use a starter drinking cup. She likes water but only if it has a bit of fruit juice added.

Bruce does most of the cooking and insists he will make the majority of her food. The first try was peeling & cooking apples, making applesauce AND apple juice. It was a success!

This is a peas and squash face!

CARROTS!!

THE CLEAN-UP
*

*
So far, just about every meal has ended in a bath; sometimes bathtub, sometimes kitchen sink.

Ro shrieks with glee and kicks her feet.

Bathing is hard work and she needs a break and a cool drink.

Wanting to sit & eat & crawl

WANTING TO SIT

January 15 Royanne had a wellness check up at the pediatrician and her first flu booster. The doctor asked us if she had sat up unassisted yet and we said no, but she was kinda trying. Babies have to sit up unassisted before they get solid food, the book says. The doctor left the room & said the nurse would be in with the shot, when she sat up! Right on cue! We celebrated by going to H.E.B and getting 8 servings of peas, 8 servings of squash and some applesauce.

Later that day Ro had her first "sit up by herself bath" in the kitchen sink.

WANTING TO EAT
Then it was on to choosing a bowl for a dinner of green peas.

WANTING TO CRAWL
(February 7)

Cousin Abby was trying to entice Royanne to crawl by placing a favorite item (the remote) just out of her reach.

It worked! She crawled 4 strokes and sat up for applause.

Traveling Baby

I think Royanne is one of the most traveled babies! We made another trip to Ft. Worth this weekend. Drawbacks to these long trips......often she expresses her strong dislike for being buckled in the car seat!

If she would untuck her leg, the crawling would begin!

"Reading" with Connor, her nephew.

Royanne and Connor really had a lot of fun. He can really make her laugh.
He wanted to share a cookie with her and didn't understand she couldn't eat it yet.

Mara and Royanne catch up.

The Kelly side of the family. All we were missing were Paul and Christa.

First finger food: white rice.
Safe, sorta tasty.

First Bible Class!

Looks like she fell asleep reading!

Frozen cloth barely helps teething pain.

When she wakes up in the morning, she turns on her music!

Hats fashioned by my Great Aunt Jessie.

Taking a break from shopping.
